Did you ever feel that maybe you had a twin, but were separated by birth? If so, the prodigal son may have have been found, his name is Jonathan Baker, and I may even share the same blood type (A positive?). Despite the fact that there is no physical resemblance, and he was born in England, and I was born in the USA, the only thing that seems to really separate us is the Atlantic Ocean, AKA “the pond”, that, and that New York City and London are about 3470 miles (5585 kilometers) away from one another.
Mr. Baker is an academic, teaching at a prodigious fashion school, the London College of Communication, and The London College of Fashion (or LCF for short) in the heart of the country’s largest urban center. When not teaching he writes a blog jonathanbakeruniversitylecturer.blogspot.com AKA Commercial Interior Design & Visual Merchandising.
My biography is nearly identical; I am an academic, teaching at a prodigious fashion school, The Laboratory Institute of Merchandising (or LIM for short) in the heart of the country’s largest urban center. (Insert New York) When not teaching I write a blog on fashion, trends, design, and visual merchandising. Sounds familiar?
While not my doppelganger, if they were to remake “The Prince And The Pauper”, it is likely we both would be cast, he, as the prince, and I as the pauper (Damn that type-casting).
Beautifully photographed by Mr. Baker. I will hope you will visit his site as often as I have (although only recently introduced to it), If you ever want to know what is going on in London, or its environs then I am certain you will find it a reliable resource.
I too always have camera in hand, and my site is used by people who wish to see what is going in New York City and its environs, and I am certain you will find it a reliable resource too
The similarities and eerily odd parallels only seek to remind me that we are all connected spiritually by invisible threads, and when you tug, just a little bit, you will be amazed who is on the other end.
With only recently being introduced, informally through our websites, a fast and furious litany of e-mails have come and gone between us. Mr. Baker was recently was on Saville Row and sends these photos to my readers to indicate what is/isn’t going on visually on the Row. I was taken aback by the modernity of the signage, the contemporary fonts, and the architectural austerity of the signage. The names Hardy Amies, Oswald Boateng, Richard Anderson, Gary Anderson, Maurice Sedwell: Bespoke Tailors seem to conjure (at least for me) the aristocracy, British banker and tea and scones, something almost magical.
Do you see, what I see?
